The Smalle team visited the Repsol Industrial Complex in Tarragona, guided by Roberto Jiménez from the Fundación Repsol and accompanied by the Repsol Complex technical managers. The main focus of the visit was on the monobuoy that Repsol uses to unload the oil tankers, particularly in its power requirements and instrumentation systems.
The Repsol Industrial Complex in Tarragona has been in operation for over 40 years, and it covers an area of approximately 500 hectares, equivalent to the Tarragona urban zone. It is divided in four areas: Exploration, Refinery, Chemistry and GLP. The monobuoy, which belongs to the Exploration area, is located 3 km from the coast. It is an offshore floating platform with pipelines leading to onshore tanks, where big vessels (such as supertankers) can offload without getting into port. The monobuoy has its own electric supply system in order to feed the on-board equipment. The application of the devices developed by Smalle Technologies in the monobuoys sector appears as a promising area of research.
